Full exhibition text
Her meticulously crafted visual language and chairs fused into patterns are instantly recognisable among a thousand paintings. With her solo exhibition spanning four floors, the young Godot Labor artist emerges from the seclusion of her studio to reveal her distinctive universe.
Created over several years, these paintings are the latest works in the Elveszett Mimikri series, in which apparent still lifes are transformed into anthropomorphic portraits of chairs. Human relationships, situations, personalities and states of mind emerge through the distinctive chairs, patterns and defining use of colour. The chair takes centre stage as the everyday piece of furniture most closely adapted to the human form: it can symbolise humility, accommodation and endurance just as readily as domination and power. A similar duality characterises the mimicry referred to in the series title: a strategy by which living organisms conceal themselves by blending into their surroundings, whether for attack or self-defence.
Alongside large-scale group portraits that have never been shown before, visitors to the exhibition Székfoglaló can also encounter Hajgató’s sculptures and photographic works for the first time.
The exhibition was opened by aesthetician Cserhalmi Luca.
