Once again, the Godot Gallery’s youngest artist, Claudia Tamási, announces new works at the gallery. The series is titled *Ismeretlen művek* (Unknown Works), its most immediate inspiration being Balzac, the narrator of the story *Az ismeretlen remekmű*. On the oil‑on‑canvas paintings, we see works in beautifully chiseled, watery or simply striking frames, yet astonishingly the images themselves are positioned within the frames with their backs facing the viewer – in other words, reversed. In both studio and gallery, the back of the image has always evoked mystery, arousing curiosity in the viewer. For the artist, the same situation brings safety: as long as the canvas only shows its back, the work remains his; when it is turned, the solemnity disappears, and he himself becomes an external observer.

Tamási Claudia creates works that simultaneously speak of the picture as an object, as a subject, as a theme, as the mediator of thoughts, and as a personal imprint. She attempts to portray the nature of the picture. She considers what painting means to a painter, the process of creation, and remarks that when she takes on a painting she can never know whether she is producing a “masterpiece” at that very moment or not. This judgement, arising from the nature of things, is generally not the one she herself makes, so the eternal longing remains: with every single piece she strives to give her best.
