The exhibiting artists: Filp Csaba, Kondor Attila, Kovács Lehel, Kucsora Márta, László Dániel, Megyeri Horváth Gábor, Mészáros Szabolcs, Süto Róbert, Szabó Ábel.
Opening: György Szemadám.
The artists who are approaching their thirties all graduated from the College of Fine Arts a few years ago, most of them in the class of Zsigmond Károlyi. Their work is characterised by each of them selecting a particular genre (interiors, landscapes, still lifes, portraits, nudes). Filp Csaba creates baroque still lifes.

Megyeri Horváth Gábor creates Caravaggian‑inspired nudes; Kucsora Márta confronts landscapes that come directly from her monochrome painting; László Dániel produces impressionistic landscapes, while Szabó Ábel offers mystical, almost metaphysical still‑lifes. “The themes and preparatory ideas of the Sensaria Group – in contrast to the long‑standing domestic practice – are no longer pursued in the often incomprehensible copying of Western art trends, but instead turned once again to personal, individual experience and the tradition of painting.”

The so‑called “old” painting is not treated as a lost heritage but as a living intellectual substance, an inner experience, and they are reluctant to take seriously the early modern claim that traditional painting has run out. By rejecting both modern and post‑modern theses, they were prompted not only to copy photographs or other images produced by mechanical visual reproduction tools, but also to paint before natural motifs, scenery and the human form, and to create their works with a view to the intellectual‑spiritual completeness of their great forebears, using the techniques, materials, and genres of the classical masters.

However, they do not view classical art with wistful eyes; they simply make use of its results, without a future “final victory” to expect. — Sturcz János
