Fuchs Tamás: Lebegés

Dear Madam, Dear Sir!

We are delighted to invite 2002 to the opening of Fuchs Tamás’s exhibition, “Lebegés”, at the Godot Gallery on 8 at 20; the opening will be presented by the writer Solymosi Bálint.

Tamás Fuchs has become known over the last two to three years for painting portraits of stars familiar from the media. The way in which the works are created is no secret: Fuchs processes the images he finds with computer drawing programmes, enriches them with various visual effects (e.g., median), and then paints them by means of traditional oil-on-canvas technique. The finished paintings, however, are not faithful copies but unique renditions of the digital image, made personal through the gestural language of painting.

In the current exhibition, Fuchs Tamás’s latest paintings are on display, complemented by a few earlier works. The oldest piece was created seven years ago, showing that the theme has continually occupied the artist; however, only now has it matured enough to be presented as part of a solo thematic show. The link between the images is the notion of buoyancy, as each painting features a floating object. The subject is extremely varied, from an ornamental pattern to a self‑igniter hanging in nothingness, to a lemon‑gloria dancing above the plain, the artist projects a vision that carries hints of surrealism. The collection nevertheless shows UFOs and satellites – again, not in the usual context. This theme stems from two sources: Fuchs’s personal attraction to science‑fiction and the world of science, and, in the contemporary world, it appears as a natural allegory of levitation.

The exhibition is open until June 7 on weekdays between 10 and 18
