Late sorrow
Daniel András’s images are however more sparing than those of his predecessors, tackling the problem of the vulnerability of identity with the tools of figurative painting. The issues of presence and outsider status shift towards questions of participation and ambiance on these canvases. Instead of the assembled scenes that were composed from pairs of paintings of different sizes placed side by side, we now see single, self‑contained images, and perhaps this technical and conceptual change reinforces the sense that this time we are navigating a more closed, even tense world in its silence.
The Island of Happiness
Obviously, they are not deceiving us with false impressions, although the good‑hearted intention to entertain protects cultured gallery visitors from alien despair. It is hard to decide whether Daniel is really joking. In any case, it comes down to character and attitude: how successfully he can persuade them that NOTHING IS WRONG.
