Kortárs Magángyűjtemények I.: Somlói–Spengler Gyűjtemény – A rózsa illata…
Dear Madam, dear Sir!
We are delighted to invite you on 2001 December 5 at 20 to the opening of *A rózsa illata…* at the Godot Gallery. The exhibition presents a thematic selection from the contemporary visual‑art private collections of Zsolt Somlói and Katalin Spengler. It will be opened by Lajos Kováts, director of the MEO Contemporary Art Collection.
Godot Gallery is launching this series to showcase contemporary private collections. The aim of the series is to present domestic contemporary collections to the general public and to spotlight a new, young generation of collectors who have emerged on the contemporary art scene since the political transition. With this exhibition series, Godot Gallery also wants to draw attention to the fact that contemporary art has once again become the most innovative sector of the art market and art collecting.
The Somlói Zsolt and Spengler Katalin collection is defined by two currents of contemporary Hungarian art. On one side, the works of artists associated with the new sensibility that typified the early 80 s (Bak Imre, Fehér László, Hencze Tamás, Kelemen Károly, Koncz András, Mulasics László, Nádler István, Soós Tamás); on the other side, the works of members of the current thirties generation (Cseke Szilárd, Hajdú Kinga, Kósa János, Köves Éva, Nemes Csaba, Szépfalvi Ágnes); and the works of Böröcz András and Bukta Imre form the spine of the collection.
The exhibition titled *The Scent of the Rose…* – in line with the general tendencies that typify contemporary art – places the narrative position and emotive storytelling at the heart of the turn‑of‑the‑century post‑modern atmosphere. It showcases works that remix the cross‑era shades of meaning attached to the rose, a symbol that is once again widely employed today.
The exhibition opening in December 5 showcases only a small fragment of the Somlói Zsolt and Spengler Katalin collections, yet it reflects the character of the collection and outlines one possible focus for collecting contemporary Hungarian works.
The exhibition can be viewed from 2002 January 11 ; on weekdays it is open between 10 and 18
