We warmly invite you to the exhibition of painter Alex Kazovszkij, titled A lakatlan sziget, kincses sziget. The opening will take place on 2001 October 31 at 20 o’clock, with the first event being a conversation conducted by art historian Judit Sárosdy together with the artist.

El Kazovszkij seems to have taken quite a different approach with his exhibition titled “A lakatlan sziget, kincses sziget”, curating a selection of works produced in the last three years as opposed to the more series‑based exhibitions of the past. Visitors will, of course, still encounter newer pieces, but most of the works have already appeared at Várfok Galéria, Dovin Galéria or the Szinyei Szalon.

El Kazovszkij’s art is founded on symbols. One of the most powerful is the longing for something unattainable, which neither delights nor is unpleasant, but is simply unsettling and stirs hope. The ever‑present “road” symbol in his canvases can likewise be tied to this. The road, at once serpentine and infinite, bordered by mythic beings, signifies wandering and searching. The deserted island is likewise the inaccessibly distant aim of the soul that yearns forever.

The stylised figures and objects are symbols in the same way. Kazovsky is also present in the paintings; for a long time he used the soldier, the centaur as his icon, while on his current works he appears as a dog‑wolf‑like animal in a seated pose. The always seated animal is situated on the border between two worlds, and in reality neither world’s laws apply to it, yet it is still able to accept them. The exaggerated nature of the depictions, the intense colour choices and the representation of motion and stillness evoke the world of the stage, upon which the director has carefully “arranged” the space, and who now leaves the audience to accept the effect.

A kiállítás november 30-ig tekinthető meg hétköznap 10 és 18 óra között vagy telefonos egyeztetéssel ettől eltérő bármely más időpontban is.
