Nagy Boglárka’s use of colour and the subjects of her paintings have until now been known for their provocativeness. Her latest canvases depart from the familiar mood; the softening of her palette also signals a restraint in the new thematic landscape. Even the intimate, family‑like scenes of the living retrò of the Danube Bend evoke nostalgia without deliberate effort. The sweet, sugar‑free idyll of honest moments stands in sharp contrast to the beach‑side glamour that has long characterised Nagy Boglárka’s work – the photogenic swimsuits, flawless bodies, fashion‑photograph poses and Instagram‑ready world where the foreign, ever‑admired but equally envied showroom aesthetic was thrust before the viewer’s eyes. In her current exhibition, the genuine joy of childhood and youth, the cold waters of the Danube, a flotilla of rubber ducks and the familiar forests along the banks still引唤 those who did not spend their summers there. The hyper‑realist paintings whose colours recall photographs of happy memories from distant or recent past are now seasoned with the uniquely blinding blue of a Hungarian sky.
