After painful effort you have allowed that fluttering feeling to dominate, a feeling that always breaks the illusion, invalidates perfect simplicity, the fluttering elegance, and the majestic calm that suppresses tragic reality. You already call that formless yet character‑laden spectre a beast, the one who exposes the artificially constructed melancholy, that trembling, daydreaming scrawl that is the backbone of every work’s stifled hearts. The formalism of beauty, the majestic bite, or the escape cloaked in the beauty of modesty, the polished, elegant nothingness that numbs the robust, clumsy fear—all of these become meaningless. The exquisite artistic sense cracks, and the essences of depth evaporate from the work. In what remains you still seek the enlivening force, and willingly or unwillingly you want to summon something barbaric beauty, a fierce will born of impotence, dazzling as much as the lost, drained beauty.
