On the Godot Institute’s special opening evening, Presser Gábor plays piano while the thoughts of Parti‑Nagy Lajos guide the audience through the moving world of the paintings by Szüts Miklós and Vojnich Erzsébet. The one‑off, unrepeatable opening captivates with the experience of a unique artistic encounter, where artistic refinement soars towards the metaphysical space. The evening brings together a meeting of three artistic disciplines.

The new exhibition at the Godot Intézet honours the work of two leading figures in contemporary Hungarian painting, Szüts Miklós and Vojnich Erzsébet. It concentrates on the second half of the legendary painter couple’s oeuvre – the works created after the change of regime – ranging from monumental oil on canvas to smaller watercolours. The pieces, built on the metaphysical tradition of painting, invite visitors into a quiet, enigmatic world. Streets, building interiors, and a labyrinth of paths fading into obscurity mingle, where the transcendental experience of absence and emptiness becomes even more palpable.

Szüts and Vojnich’s artworks convey the relentless wear of melancholic thought, expressing their unattainable quest in two consistent, refined bodies of work. Their serious, weighty pieces transmit a world that eludes concepts through their metaphorical visual language. Their art has been presented in countless exhibitions to both domestic and international audiences, and they have been honoured with significant awards. Deeply believing in the power of humanity and thought, and proclaiming and living those ideals, these creators represent a distinct, unique voice in Hungary’s visual arts scene. Apart from the high‑level technical execution of painting, it is their enigmatic quality that renders their work compelling. Their distilled visual world invites visitors to a genuine encounter within the gallery spaces of the Godot Contemporary Art Institute.

The exhibition is open to visitors: 2025. 03. 01. – 04 13. Thursday–Sunday 14:00 – 19:00
