This is how you can see the painting on your own wall – a new virtual wall experiment by ByGodoton.

A work of art can speak even on a screen, but before buying, the most important questions often remain open: Will it fit the room, will it be a good place for it, and which frame would suit it? ByGodot's new browser‑based virtual wall test helps you avoid having to just imagine them.

With the “Try it on your wall” feature you can place the selected artwork in your own environment on a mobile phone or tablet without installing a separate app. On supported devices you get a live AR view, and on all phones a room‑photograph mode helps you compare.

Less uncertainty in buying art online.

Centimetres listed on a work’s data sheet are precise, but on their own are difficult to translate into spatial experience. The same picture has an entirely different effect in a narrow vestibule, above a sofa, or on an empty wall in a spacious living room. The virtual wall test makes the three important aspects of the decision more illustrative:

  • the proportion of the work and its initial size in relation to the wall and the furniture;

  • the possible placements, height and composition;

  • the effect of the frame's colour and character.

The result is an informational preview, not an engineering‑level accurate visual plan. The accuracy of live AR wall detection depends on the device, the lighting and the surroundings, but the feature provides far more reference points than a product photo displayed on its own.

How can I view the painting on my own wall?

  1. Open a ByGodot artwork page that has the following available: Try it out on the wall possibility

  2. Start the wall test in the browser on your mobile phone or tablet. You don’t need to download an app.

  3. Choose the live AR view if your device supports it, or use the room‑photo mode that works on every phone.

  4. Place the artwork on the wall, then, if necessary, adjust its size and position with two fingers.

  5. Try out several frames, take a screenshot, and compare up to four versions.

Live AR: based on the real size of the artwork

On supported phones or tablets, the selected artwork is displayed over the browser’s camera view. The system sets the initial size based on the actual width and height stored in the ByGodot database. If fine‑tuning is needed for wall detection or perspective, the piece can be resized and aligned with two fingers.

This is particularly useful when you’re choosing between two similar wall spaces, or if you’d like to judge whether the artwork works better on its own or alongside other objects.

Without a frame, or framed in black, white or wood.

In addition to the work’s surroundings, framing can also significantly change the overall impression. In the wall test, several versions can be displayed one after another:

  • frameless display;

  • black frame;

  • white frame;

  • natural oak frame;

  • Walnut frame;

  • gold frame.

Here, on the same wall, you can compare, for example, the restrained, frameless version with a stronger black contour or a warmer wooden frame.

Sculpture photography mode on every phone

If the live AR isn’t available or you’d rather work with a picture that you can edit at your leisure, you can create or select a photograph of the room. Size calibration is carried out using a distance you specify – a known reference point – so the programme can place the artwork accurately.

The sculpture photo is processed locally by the browser: The image does not upload to the server.. This can then also be modified – the work’s location, size and frame.

Save and compare

A snapshot of the final preview can be saved and downloaded as a JPG file to your phone. Up to four versions may be kept for comparison, so they can be placed side by side, for example:

  • two different placements;

  • The same work, in a black and natural oak frame.

  • two different size settings;

  • several works or compositions competing with each other

The saved images can still be viewed later, and can be shown to those with whom you wish to decide together.

Quick answers about the wall test.

Does it work without an app?

Yes. The wall test runs in a mobile phone or tablet browser, without installing a separate application.

Will the work be displayed at full size?

The system starts from the actual width and height stored in the database. The display can be adjusted with two fingers. The AR preview is only informational, as its accuracy depends on the device and its surroundings.

Is it possible to choose a frame?

Yes. Unframed versions in black, white, natural oak, walnut and gold can be tried.

Can the result be saved?

Yes. A snapshot can be taken and downloaded as a JPG, and up to four versions can be compared.

What happens to my room photo?

In portrait‑photo mode, the image is processed locally, in the browser; the photo is not uploaded to the server.

Try it on your own wall.

The ByGodot wall test can be accessed directly from the relevant artwork pages, and is also available on ByGodot’s main page beneath the Godot Art Expo recommendation. If you’d like to see how it works, Start the test routeIf you were to pick a work first, Browse the ByGodot search engine..

The virtual preview does not replace an in‑person meeting with the artwork, but it helps ensure that when selecting online the size, placement and frame are no longer merely a guess.
