Exhibition of third‑year students of Szellemkép Free School at the Godot Gallery – Photo Month 2006

Within the scope of Fotóhónap 2006 its second exhibition will open on 9 November at 19 o'clock for the Szellemkép Szabadiskola. On this occasion a larger–than–usual display of third‑year students’ photographs will be shown, with more than 50 images exhibited in the Godot Gallery beside the Godot Café. Godot Gallery strives, true to its name, to operate as an institution capable of offering a wide range of services that support artists, adapting to emerging needs. Its philosophy is to forge a connection between quality art and the individual.

The Szellemkép School had a great opportunity to exhibit in this exciting and exceptional space, and it asked its third‑year students to select from their favourite photographs. During a focused session, with the help of photographer Imre Drégely – who opens the show on Thursday – they chose 55 images. The bulk of the photos comprised portraits and self‑portraits, autonomous reportage and environmental shots. The exhibited photographs were exclusively black‑and‑white, made with analogue techniques, and were the students’ own laboratory work.

Szellemkép's open‑form free school, where since 1994 a two‑semester, college‑style short‑film and photography training programme has been running.

The school provides creative training, with a curriculum built on regular workshop work that primarily offers strategies for low‑budget, independently produced films and for demanding independent photography. It also gives a secure backdrop for mastering the genres applied. At the same time, by organising regular exhibitions, film screenings, screenplay competitions, the production organisation of low‑budget films, and participation in festivals, it remains an active workshop and a welcoming studio even for students who have already graduated.

Opening: November 9. 19.00 – Godot Gallery, Madách Street 8.
