At the Godot Gallery’s opening exhibition, visitors will discover the latest works of Péter Kovács (Munkácsy Prize winner, eminent artist). The heart of the show is a series of drawings that portray human faces, fashioned in the artist’s well‑known manner: the quest for distinctive and prominent strokes in the free‑hand drawing game conceals a profound intellectual experience.

For Péter Kovács, an idea is merely the starting point while drawing. As soon as he starts working, new ideas strike under the pen and only then does he realise what he actually wanted to draw. In this way, unconsciously, the mind captures his subjects.

Abandoned, flattened shells lie the figures of Péter Kovács. They have slipped into a sad universality, remaining at the lower edge of the shattered gesture, and because the artist, fortunately, is not a member of any behaviour club, these beings are neither situated nor situated. They lack a background in any single meaning of the word, and they themselves scarcely exist, standing on the brink of life and death. Their beings, lying in seed brooms, are bloody and wordless; they only wish to exist and to be made to exist, to revel in the donation without regard to interest. Their pictures do not give in the pedagogical sense of the word and expect nothing. They do nothing more than show themselves: ecce.
