Godot Gallery cordially invites you to the

Contemporary Private Collections

for the seventh part of the exhibition series

For the introductory exhibition of Gábor Kozák's collection, titled *Kettesben és egyedül*.

Kósa János: Hackers

Opening: 2005 September 7 at 20 until 22.

21 at the Godot Café, Amorf Ördögök Unplugged concert.

The artists featured in the exhibition are: Baksai József, Bukta Imre, Dániel András, Erdélyi Gábor, feLugossy László, Gaál József, Kósa János, Nagy Gábor György, Nemes Csaba, Szépfalvi Ágnes, Szikora Tamás, Szurcsik József, Szűcs Attila, Tamási Claudia, Wächter Dénes, x‑T – Nagy Kriszta.

Kozák Gábor’s collection has two main focal points. The first consists of members of the mid‑generation, of whom the most representative in the collection are Imre Bukta, László feLugossy and József Gaál. Bukta, regarded as an “agricultural artist”, laces his scenes with irony and at times delicate social criticism; his largely rural yet unmistakably Central‑European images have had a great influence on the collector. feLugossy is similar to Gaál in that, apart from a few major shifts we might call epochs, their work is divided into dozens of small‑to‑medium series, which makes collecting individual pieces a difficult task. The diversity of their art is bewildering, but their distinctive traits are easily recognisable, so each of their works is undoubtedly characteristic of the artist. In the collection, although fewer in number but from the same generation, are works by Tibor Bada Dada, József Baksai and József Szurcsik.

In another key focus of the collection are members of the painter generation that began in the 90s, with names such as Dániel András, Fuchs Tamás, Hajdú Kinga, Nemes Csaba, Nemes Nikolett, Szépfalvi Ágnes, Szűcs Attila, Tamási Claudia, Wächter Dénes, and x-T - Nagy Kriszta. All of them create figurative paintings, and the basis of their art is their secondary experiences: they process photographs, flyers, postcards and computer‑manipulated images that they have made themselves, and then paint over them. Their work is regarded as original, honest and exploratory. So far, a few characteristic, more important works from each of them have entered the collection.

Ágnes Szépfalvi: In a Room

From a different perspective, the collection extends from photorealism (Kósa, Tamási, Dániel) to a minimal but still figuratively inspired art. At this terminal point stand Erdélyi Gábor’s work, with its universal message and extremely positive charge, and the dramatic boxes of Szikora Tamás, each of which shows the human being’s solitary existence and loneliness in the world.

Wächter Dénes: Happy New Year

In addition, there are two important collecting areas in its current state. One is the icon, whose definition the collector interprets extremely far away, and the other is a genre he favours, the pastel.

The current introductory exhibition is thematic: it is a personal testimony, as every work features one or two figures, thereby presenting Kozák Gábor’s individuality.

The exhibition is open for viewing until October 1, from Tuesday to Friday between 10 and 18, and on Saturday between 10 and 13
