Wächter Dénes: Happy New Year! 1999
Ten years ago, naïvely, without assessing our real possibilities or weighing the consequences, and driven by an idealistic notion, we began operating a gallery. We deemed it most important to remain close to art and artists, immersing ourselves as fully as possible in that milieu. Our fundamental requirement for ourselves was to create a confident, inspiring and friendly environment for the artists. Gradually we came to realise that the intermediary role had been conferred upon us, whose task is to transmit the experience they have lived to as many people as possible, whether it concerns emotions, intellectual adventure or even the return on financial investment.
Gaál József – Marszüasz IV. 2002
One of the cornerstones in shaping the gallery's programme was taking into account the rules and principles of the domestic art scene. We have always considered it important to promote our artists' professional recognition and acclaim, ensuring their regular presence in specialist literature, trade press and other media. We monitored their museum presence, the acquisition of public collections, and made significant gestures to support them. We have repeatedly successfully collaborated with other independent galleries and museums through joint exhibitions and events, because we believe in the power of collective action, which rests on a mutual understanding of each other's interests.
It is the result of a conscious decision: we have crafted an approach that is not merely based on aesthetic criteria, but also conveys ideas that reach beyond them. We have not taken a vote for any single direction, school or genre; instead, we have sought out makers with an individual character. The artists associated with Godot share a progressive, constantly renewing, exploratory outlook and a yearning for expression that takes a different shape at each turn. In running the gallery we are especially proud that we do not highlight fleeting, short‑lived stars; rather, alongside recognised artists, we uncover young talent that proves promising over the long term. We place special emphasis on ensuring that our collaborations are long‑term, because only in that way can we make a significant contribution to the construction of a career.
Nagy Kriszta x-T: Csipkekriszti is dead 2007
The foundation of Godot Gallery fortuitously coincided with the period when significant contemporary private collections began to emerge in Hungary. We feel that our artistic perspective, professional advice and the balanced approach we practise helped to bring these collections to fruition. We are delighted to see the number of serious collectors growing dynamically, as in the present these collections best realise the triad of value preservation, value creation and value enhancement.
We hope that our slogan will remain appropriate for the next decade: creators' freedom, collectors' passion.

Our jubilee catalogue, the 1999–2009 Godot Gallery, will be released a week later, on September 9_. In the English‑German‑Hungarian catalogue we present the gallery’s artists in short studies, and nearly a hundred reproductions largely feature works that found their home in the gallery.
The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Friday 10 to 18 until September 26. On Saturday it will be open between 10 and 13.
