Gil & Moti
Formabontó exhibition at the Műcsarnok and the Godot Gallery
1–26 February 2006
Dating Gil & Moti
Curator: Nemes Attila
About the artists
Gil & Moti are artists of Israeli heritage living in Rotterdam who often explore the appropriation of public space and its impact on human relationships in their work. In most of their projects the focus is on rehabilitating the neighbourhood or residents’ network of relationships, revitalising idle institutional spaces, transforming streets, and the like. Their work tackles one of the most urgent questions in visual art: the relationship between object, audience and public space, and the problems that arise from it. A key element of their practice is a critical examination of the tie between private life and public space. As a gay couple building on their Jewish identity, the bulk of their work forms part of contemporary debates about difference and the rules that govern social coexistence. Their installations have been hugely successful from New York to Haifa; last year they also enjoyed great success at Vienna’s MUMOK in the exhibition titled *Para‑sites*. Today the exhibition *Dating Gil & Moti* is on show in the art house.
About the exhibition
In the Műcsarnok Menu project exhibition, the Dating Gil & Moti installation operated as the artists’ workplace for the duration of the show, from 2 to 26 in February 2006. Daily at 8 o’clock, the appointment office welcomed visitors. Another element of the Gil & Moti programme in Budapest is an accommodation project set up on the premises of the Godot Gallery. In the Godot Gallery, which has become their home, an exhibition titled “Yours” compiled from love letters will be on display from 2006 February 1 to 26.
