UnderGround
Artistic statement:
"Egy jó fotónak kell oka és kell értelme legyen" – as Berlin‑based Boris Duhm, who also works in painting, drawing, performance and installation, says, initially sounds trite.
Boris Duhm considers photography to be far more than an aesthetic decoration on the wall: for him, the medium can reveal a great deal about himself to the observer, about the society in which we live, and about how we people treat one another.
Every photo speaks about the relationship between the depicted subject and the artist who portrays them: it shows how the artist sees the world and other people.
His viewpoint is derived from his private experiences, and his perspective in his works is very personal. In its settings he portrays content that coalesces in the viewer when the whole exhibition is viewed.
It is about that strength that is nurtured by inferiority, yet turns outward, full of faith, towards people and the world that surrounds it.
Self As A Tree
The title of the exhibition, *Emotional Disasters and Masquerades* (Érzelmi összeomlások és álarcok), signals that this confidence has shattered in Boris Duhm. Nevertheless, owing to his humour and sensitivity to detail, he manages to present a place he wishes to show.
It is not to understand the photo as an end in itself, but to discover the deeper dimensions lying behind the images. Love exists! Let there be love for nature and for the other people.
The photograph La Chambre Claire‑je (Roland Barthes) is present in all of us; Boris Duhm attempts to realise this as an inner chamber.
Raindancer
All photographs in the exhibition were produced purely with analogue techniques, with no computer intervention whatsoever. The images are intended to be alternative frameworks for the dominant and very sensible digital imaging solutions of the present and for our entire contemporary, digital‑transformed existence.
The text was written by Anja Wenzel, a cultural journalist, in 2012 November in Berlin.
