The Godot Gallery respectfully invites you

Emese Bács

csehmese

for the opening of the exhibition titled ___

The exhibition will be opened by art historian László Hemrik.

The artist on display, Bács Emese, is still a fourth‑year student at the Academy of Fine Arts, studying under József Gaál. Seeing her work at graduation, no one would imagine that this exhibition is her first independent showcase. Her art is characterised by a deeply personal inner strength that cannot be tied to any contemporary painting trend. The material on display is a thematic selection from the works of this experimental young artist. The canvases portray the city – specifically Budapest – everyday life, the simplest, most ordinary scenes. People clutching the handrail on the bus, a boy leaning against a railing, a parked car, or a scene unfolding in an underpass.

The paintings portray situations familiar to everyone, yet due to their painting style they still become almost visionary: at first sight they present a déjà‑vu experience, but, like in a dream, they do not tie together with any concrete content. Thus the familiar places remain unknown, and the viewer cannot identify where or when he or she saw them.
