Judith Rita Rabóczky, a preeminent figure in Hungarian contemporary sculpture, presents a comprehensive survey of her artistic oeuvre at the Godot Contemporary Art Institute. The exhibition VÁSEKÉN, which spans more than fifteen years of her career, serves as the stage for the surfacing of female identity and the primal forces of femininity.

At the Hungarian National Gallery, in the Hall of Fine Arts, at MODEM and at the Ferenczy Museum Centre, a sculptor’s individual works or group commissions now appear together for the first time, complemented by his most recent, yet unrevealed pieces. The figures, forged from iron that delivers a startling experience to the visitor, and from coloured cables, lay out the body’s natural existence with stark, almost butcher‑like honesty. The play of mirrors and light transports the visitor into a fable‑like world that is at once ethereal and hellish, with raw enchantment and startling grotesquerie. Even though the light pouring from within the sculptures sometimes takes the most profane shapes – be it a glowing volcano or a mosaic‑mirror surface that rattles like a vomiting rhythm – it always speaks of a transcendental purity confined within the prison of material, a purity that carves its own path to the surface.

The dynamic of Rabóczky’s sculptures and the force that radiates from them captivates the visitor and leads them into an entirely new universe.
