Short listing
Szabó Kristóf, vagyis KristofLab nagyszabású önálló kiállítása a Godot Labor négy emeletén.
Full exhibition text
KristofLab – the large‑scale solo show by Szabó Kristóf – opens on the fourth floor of Godot Labor. The work titled ERROR reflects the irregularities, faults and excesses of the urban environment and modern society, that is, the present world order. In KristofLab’s images the loneliness of empty buildings gives way to a kind of urban existence that is at once abandoned and safe. In these works the buildings assumed a leading role—passing by unnoticed day after day, yet imbued with a particular everyday aesthetic. Likewise they become invisible and dissolve into the city’s fabric, just as the moving masses of people lose facial identity and become monotone. The unnatural colours and deliberate image glitches, however, pull the viewer away from the darker reality: from this point of view the urban space, with all its absurdities, looks like a vast playground.
According to the testimony of KristofLab’s art, there is a distortion in our current society; nature, too, infiltrates the products of civilisation in his work, haunting those places as a phantom with its yearning to live – the very places from which humanity has in fact excluded itself. The broken balance and the vanishing values are accounted for by the globalised society, which offers no reassuring promises in terms of the past, present or future. The exhibition presents the artist’s most recent installations, paintings, photographs and international projects.
