The Godot Contemporary Art Institute established its prize for supporting contemporary visual artists with the aim of helping the careers of domestic artists when they reach the age of 35.

In the art scene the Godot Catalyst award fills a crucial gap, supporting artists’ creative processes both with an exhibition opportunity and with a substantial honourarium of 1 million forints.

The award’s distinctive feature, among other things, lies in dressing the actively involved audience in the adjudication process with a role of opinion‑shaper. A passive onlooker becomes an active recipient and can influence which finalist artist wins the 500.000‑p.f. audience prize.

The group exhibition of the finalists of the Godot Catalyst award 2022 was titled HETEROTOPIA – quality space.

Heterotopia – quality space

The exhibition of the finalists for the Godot Catalyst Award was named HETEROTÓPIA, in the Foucauldian sense, i.e. a qualitative space. The artistic projects submitted by the finalists, with perceptual precision, collectively emphasise how wide and immediate our surroundings and sphere of life are differentiated and defined by human relations.

Artists with heightened sensitivity and openness resonated with global, “external” events that impact society as a whole even before those events had occurred. Consequently, the majority of the carefully selected works—many of which address spatial sociology or self‑reflexive themes—carry a striking sense of immediacy and relevance. Among the varied intermedia and conceptual projects is a number of narrative‑oriented approaches, which we also endeavoured to follow in the arrangement of the exhibition. One piece leads into the next, while works that occupy the same space converse with one another and with the audience alike.
