===================

Éles Lóránt, winner of the grand prize at the 2022 Godot Art Expo, is one of Hungary’s leading exponents of contemporary sculptural approaches. His works give the impression of being both objects and works of art, suggesting familiar or wholly unidentifiable devices. The pipes hidden behind walls and beneath our cities return as humanity’s forgotten creations in his sculptures, which are at once sealed off and enclose something unknown. The masterful fusion of cold, industrial shells and the organic elements within them draws attention to the contradictions of our present and future. What will remain of us? Éles’s possible answers to this question are just as ambiguous as his sculptures, which reveal an entirely new dimension when examined up close, as we peer into the grotesque world of their gaps and openings. These bizarre, unconventional sculptures draw us closer while also unsettling us. As we move upwards through Éles Lóránt’s exhibition across the four floors of Godot Labor, we descend ever deeper, into the deep layers of earth and water.

Éles Lóránt graduated in sculpture from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Pécs in 2017. Between 2020 and 2022, he was a recipient of the Derkovits Gyula Fine Art Scholarship.
