The Godot Gallery will launch its 2020 exhibition year in January with a show by painter Gábor Király, who appears here for the first time. In his solo exhibition titled *The Earth, which Lies Outside the City*, he offers works that reveal the distinctive traits of the surreal artistic world that is familiar from Király Gábor, while also presenting a cohesive selection of his newest pieces centred on a single theme. He does not entirely abandon the bizarre creatures of his fantasy; instead, his paintings focus on animalised human figures. These are presented with a strangely suggestive face that looks back at the viewer, echoing certainty, the natural essence, modest knowledge and instinct all at once. Király Gábor elevates these figures to a mystical level alongside their depiction of the everyday world’s material realm, by combining a representation that eschews realistic sight with a subdued, cool colour palette. Beyond paintings of various sizes, his works in the exhibition further embody his emerging figurative and sculptural line, creating a mythical space amid the city centre that carries the marks of silence, slowing down and profound content.
