Bukta Imre: Landscape Photographs, 2003
Bukta Imre has been practising fine art since 1975. He is a member of the Vajda Lajos Studio Association, the MAMÜ Society, and from 1996 a member of the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts. His accolades include the Munkácsy Mihály-díj ( 1987 ) and the Érdemes Művész award ( 1997 ). He has represented Hungary twice at the Venice Biennale in the Hungarian Pavilion in 1988 and 1999. His creative output is highly varied, ranging from traditional graphic work, through mixed‑media drawings and oil paintings, to pieces made with corn, matchsticks, tiles and fur. A public sculpture by him stands in his native village of Mezőszemer, erected in the Millennium year. Installation is another defining genre of his work, and his performance practice is internationally renowned and significant.

Imre Bukta: Palántázó, 2002
Imre Bukta is a natural scientist. For thirty years he has devoted his career to studying the relationship between nature and humanity. Nature is within us; we simply pay little attention to it, yet we remain capable of sensing the vibrations emitted from our own selves that guide us to answer the questions of life with either Yes or No. Thus, Imre Bukta is nothing other than the hidden guardian of nature itself – a nature that searches for and finds its mirror in the external natural world, in everyday simple work, in circumstances and in bonds.
Bukta Imre: In the Tavern VI., 2004
In harmony with that which is his own, in its own time and place, the artist focuses on agriculture, village life and ordinary peasant work. He incorporates the tools and materials of those tasks into his creations. His works, rendered with subtle irony and affectionate grotesque, highlight the absurdities introduced by the forced East‑European modernisation of peasant life.
