László feLugossy

Frászkarika

Venue: 2019. On 21 May from 19.

The exhibitor says a greeting.

This year, the 20‑year‑old Godot Gallery will celebrate its anniversary, and one of the main highlights of its festive programme is that the gallery will organise a separate exhibition for each of its most important artists, each featuring the artist’s latest works for the public. We would like to draw attention to the fact that, although we refer to the living classics of contemporary art, these artists remain, even today, constantly creative and exciting figures who react to the events unfolding around them and to the changing dynamics of the visual‑art world.

In this series, the next artist is László feLugossy, whose current exhibition is already his sixth at the gallery’s walls.

Long live the art that even contains depths in our time!

Only for the open-minded!

Certain pictures in prints contain art.

feLugossy László (1947) is one of the freest‑spirited phenomena in contemporary Hungarian art. The name Lugossy ̶ the “fe” prefix is intended to signify a phenomenal phenomenon ̶ was born in Kecskemét, where he also pursued photographic studies. Describing his artistic activity with the ever‑changing phrase that is not the most accurate, he says his work spans many genres and the pieces he creates across different artistic fields exist together in continuous dialogue and influence, within the same universe marked by the name Laca. According to his own statement, his attraction to visual art was the root of every artistic endeavour. In the musical world he became unforgettable as a vocalist and songwriter in the A. E. Committee, but many other audiences also recognise him from numerous other bands, as his film‑directing, writing and performance appearances likewise represent his exciting and unique world. In painting he simultaneously blends humour and a grotesque viewpoint with a sincere immediacy of experience, the unfiltered nature of instinctive expression, which through its spontaneity displays a treasury of subjective yet comprehensible associations. His works cannot be divided into distinct periods; they are rather bound together by a creative flow of thoughts and visions. His world is at once simple and complex, with symbols and banalities coexisting side by side. It is not grounded, yet it springs from here. He casts his own experiences into cosmic vistas, playing with the human‑like beings or objects that populate his images. Even within the chaotic anarchistic musings that incorporate East European experiences, a sense of inner coherence is always present.
