Erdei Krisztina: Transz

Erdei Krisztina studied philosophy and political theory, themes that are strongly reflected in her choice of subjects. In pursuit of this, she is further developing her latest works, which reposition the possibilities of image‑making in a new light. For this she has chosen a fresh genre – the gif – which has become part of our everyday life, yet as an artistic form it remains somewhat unfamiliar even today, and nevertheless steers visual thought towards a new perspective. She exploits this in the pieces she is about to present.

Images that are converted into GIFs could stand on their own, yet they take on a wholly different meaning when they flash one after another, becoming individual stories. The tales presented by the artist could even be issued as a novella collection. Moreover, they are not merely intriguing in themselves; they also point to the long‑term possibilities they contain, taking a step ahead of us. This is reflected in the exhibition’s theme, where the works appear as examples of visual education for disadvantaged groups.

Whilst increasingly more information reaches us in the form of images, most people would still prefer the correction of maths work to a drawing lesson. In primary schools today, they still apply the methods from 30-50 years ago when teaching the interpretation of pictures. However, the exhibition, as a potential learning aid, provides a new alternative and warns of the significance of the emphasis hidden in image‑based data.
