The Godot Gallery cordially invites you and your friends to its exhibition titled “Kerékbilincs.”

Ten years ago, wheelchairs first appeared in Budapest, and ever since they have added colour to the streetscape with their red, metal shoe‑boot wheels, becoming an integral part of the city centre's folklore. Most people are annoyed, because a fined driver has to pay the penalty and sometimes cannot move on for hours. Yet there are also cases where traffic is stalled by a car parked in the wrong place, or someone sits for weeks under a gate in a space reserved for people with a mobility impairment. They bring happiness to those who normally also receive an income. And a few older ladies, watching with delight, say: – *This sticky one did well too.*

drMáriás Béla: Suicidal lying policeman

Larger size

We saw them put them up, take them down with a flex strap or a coupler, or even without, watched them in use and in dim cellar groans, half rusted or abandoned in a bin. We also saw how they make life harder for people going into the theatre. We were curious where the large sum paid for their removal disappears to. We were also curious how the system that surveils illegally parked cars in the restricted area and snaps them down in a flash works so oiled, like few things in this country.

Tibor Palkó: Fifty‑fifty

Greater size

We warmly invite everyone to the exhibition, especially those already touched by the theme, those who have found or lost a wheelchair, and the minority from whom such items have already been stolen. Naturally we are happy to return the objects to their rightful owners. At our exhibition you will encounter several wheelchair reincarnations, created in collaboration with the following artists: Bogdándy Szultán, drMáriás Béla, efZámbó István, Gaál József, Majoros Gyula, Palkó Tibor, Szurcsik József, Ujházi Péter, Wahorn András.

Bogdándy Sultan: Idegosztály

Bigger size

Opening: 2009 on 14 April at 20 o'clock.

Opening: Kovács András Péter, humourist

The exhibition is supported by Magyar Építő Zrt.

Available for viewing: until May 2, from Tuesday to Friday 10 and 18, on Saturday between 10 and 13.
